HND Computing

COURSE PHILOSOPHY

The BDTVEC HND in Computing course aimed at preparing students for careers as computer programmers, analyst programmers and systems developers. The course has been redesigned to prepare its diplomates to meet the needs of the computing industry of Negara Brunei Darussalam. The special needs of Brunei Darussalam are incorporated in the course by specifically equipping students with those skills necessary for them to make an immediate and significant contribution to the local computer industry.

COURSE AIMS

The course aims to:

  1. Prepare the students for successful careers in the field of information processing.
  2. Develop in students the skills and knowledge that will enable them to make a positive and effective contribution to the computing industry.
  3. Provide students with the background that will enable them to take advantage of future technological advances in the computing field.
  4. Prepare the students to upgrade their qualifications at educational institutions, either locally or abroad.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

On completion of the course the students will be able to:

  1. Approach systematically the design, implementation and maintenance of computer-based systems.
  2. Adopt agreed standards in the development of systems including the production of appropriate documentation.
  3. Appreciate the structure and functioning of organisations and the role of information processing systems within them.
  4. Understand financial techniques and constraints within organisations.
  5. Demonstrate ability in mathematical concepts and techniques
  6. Evaluate, implement and manage database systems.
  7. Demonstrate familiarity with a wide range of ahardware configurations and software
  8. Appreciate the underlying technology of modern computing systems.
  9. Function and communicate effectively both as an individual and as a member of a team.
  10. Demonstrate personal development of creative, critical and analytical skills.
  11. Adopt a professional approach to their work and abide by a recognized code of conduct
  12. Assimilate current developments in computer hardware and software
  13. Demonstrate an awareness of the effect of computers on the individual and society.
