Welcoming the new school term, Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology held its Appreciation Night last Saturday, the 19th March 2016 with the theme ‘Retro Night ‘. The celebration was filled with exhilarating lucky dips; astounding performances from both the employees of the college, students and from some upcoming artists as special guest for the evening.
The event was celebrated at the Park View Hotel, Jerudong. Everyone paved their way to the event, dressed in their preferred ‘Retro’ theme from the 50’s to the 80’s. The event opened with a prayer recital followed by the welcoming remarks by Dr. Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Abdul Latip. It then kicked off with a talent competition where the students showcased their aptitudes of singing, dancing and yoyo juggling. They were also awarded with sensational prizes and trophies.
To top that off, there were distinct performances by the impending artist of Brunei, Mr. Tamimi F, Mr. Muhammad Rizal “Azhiman, Haji. Asrif Saifullah (Sai Firsa) and Ms. Thasha Fadillah. There were several dance numbers performed by the college’s homegrown talents, namely, from the Dance Club, Music Club as well as the lecturers themselves. These numbers included music numbers as early as the 50’s to the 80s’. This is a prospect for one and all to vitrine their talents, in addition to their academics.
The crowd was amused with both their appetites for food and entertainment. This celebration is actually a way for the college to express their gratitude to both the students and employees of the college as well to bond with its community. In line with that, it’s about the time, the college put their assignment apart and enjoy the team with a party.
At the struck of sunset of last Saturday, 18th April, 2015, Badiah Hotel was packed with people mostly from Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology to attend the college’s Appreciation Night. The theme of the event was ‘International Night’. This is an opportunity for one and all to showcase their talents, in addition to their academics. The celebration was filled with exhilarating lucky dips; astounding performances from both the employees of the college and the students as well as a special guest appearance from Brunei’s local artist and youtube sensation, Jaz Hayat and his band.
The event opened with the recital of the Surah Al- Fatihah by Mr Azizul, a senior lecturer of the college. Traditional costumes from different countries like Brunei, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, China, Philippines, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and the likes came paving their way to the event.
To top that off, there were distinct song performances by a guest performer from Pelangi FM, Hafiz, and some students of Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology. There were also several dance numbers performed by the college’s homegrown talents namely from the Dance Club Revolution and as well as the lecturers themselves.
The crowd was tickled with both their appetites for food and entertainment. This celebration is essentially a way for the college to show their indebtedness to both the students and employees of the college as well as to bond with its community. The event is also a way to show its appreciation to the sponsors’, namely, Nazmi Trading, Concept Computers, Megastrike, Radisson Hotel, Rentokil, Termicam, Andy L. Professional, TAIB, BIBD, Duners, Aewon, Go Lean Fitness Studio, PHMD Publishing Company, Kausar Cafe, KMAS Media and the management of Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology.
As a whole, the event was a success, a night filled with loads of fun and laughter. This was also one of the ways of the college to create a more fun filled environment between the students, lecturers and employees by appreciating and celebrating each and everyone’s presence.
Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology Organizes Orientation Day for new students to welcome the 5th intake of the 272 scholars under the BPTV (Biasiswa Pendidikan Teknikal dan Vokasional) Scheme and also fee paying students, Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology has organized a three-day activity for these students from 29th of September – 1st of October , 2014 at Dewan Mahligai, The Airport Mall. This event focused on providing the students with the information they need to enhance their college education and experience.
On the first day, the students were involved with Zumba exercises, teambuilding activities, and a tour around the campus.
The second day was primarily for the students and parents to be familiar with the scholarship rules and understand the transition from O level education to vocational education. The session started with a motivational speech by the well-renowned, Dr. Ali Qassem, emphasizing on the importance of determination in achieving one’s goals, followed by a briefing from JPKE regarding the scholarship policies. On this day, there was also a session from the four academic faculties to explain the teaching methodologies and activities to develop the students. In addition, the Brunei Darussalam Technical and Vocational Education Council (BDTVEC) came to explain the policies and procedures of the courses.
On the third day, the students were briefed about the college clubs that they could join and participate in. The college believes that participating in these clubs serve as a venue to enhance talent, sports skills, camaraderie, teamwork, and creativity among students.
The college and students are very thankful to the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan for the opportunity given thru the scholarship scheme.
To strengthen the students’ arithmetic ability and critical thinking, Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology organised an academic competition entitled, ‘Maths Day’ among their new intake of students yesterday at their college premises in The Airport Mall.
Eleven (11) groups competed against one another in answering easy, average and difficult questions. They all had to search for the questions in different locations and undergo one challenge after another under time pressure.
This activity fostered team spirit and persistence in accepting challenges.
“We enjoyed the activity because it was fun working in a team to hunt for the hidden questions and answer them together.
It was tough answering the Maths questions in word form and we were only given one minute to answer”, says Vanessa Lo Mei Lee, the team captain of the winning team.
The Academic Division of the college has planned several academic competitions for this year to help develop students’ confidence in their abilities.
Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology has come up with another exciting event of celebrating MIB day .The 2014 MIB Day was organized in Dewan Mahligai Hall, Airport mall, by the Language and Communication faculty of Cosmopolitan College, as a mark of enhancing the Brunei culture and tradition within students. It was a two-day event wherein, the first day (Tuesday, 29th April, 2014), the drawing competition was conducted and the second day (Wednesday, 30th April, 2014) was when the main event was conducted.
The theme of the celebration was “Value the culture and tradition of Brunei”. The emcees of the two day event were the very own students of the College namely Haji Abu Hurairah At-Turumudzy bin Haji Hamzah. and Nur Qamarina binti Ahmad. The event was graced by the Executive Chairman of Cosmopolitan College, Dr. Aziz Latip. It started with the reading of the Surah Al-Fatihah followed by a welcome speech by Mr Khairulanwar, the chairperson of the event. There were many other activities like the talent show and Tutong Wedding Ceremony. Students also brought out their business mind by setting up booths for food, and other small scale businesses like selling articles, customized items, traditional items and the likes.
The event brought a vibe of our country’s culture to the point wherein even the language Bahasa Melayu was conversed in class and around campus to commemorate these two days celebration. Lecturers and students were dressed in the traditional costumes to mark this day. Students managed to try their knack on business and as well as to express their love for the country’s culture. The college looks forward to organizing more events as such in the near future.
