The theme for Brunei Darussalam's 34th National Day celebration is "Menjayakan Wawasan Negara" or Accomplishing the National Vision. The theme stresses that every citizens and resident, as well as sectors involved in the development of the nation, have their own role in making the Wawasan Brunei 2035 a success.

The joy and cheers of celebration number 34 of the National Day are the manifestations of love and loyalty to the monarch and the nation. The presence of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on the right occasion stimulated the spirit of the participants, especially to refresh their resolve, invigorate the noble values and strengthen nationalism. The stirring of the miniature flags by the students along the roads further glorified the atmosphere.

Happy National Day...

On Thursday, the 5th of October 2017, Brunei Darussalam celebrates the historical event of His Majesty’s Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Yang Di Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam’s 50th year of ruling. With months of preparations beforehand, this event was already said to be one of the largest celebrated events in Brunei Darussalam’s history.

Cosmopolitan College took part in celebrating this event, with over one-hundred volunteers, all students and lecturers, to participate with waving the national flag for the arrival of the royal family. Like all of Brunei Darussalam, Cosmo students were also eager to show their patriotism, and to show that that they were proud to have been raised in Brunei Darussalam under His Majesty’s just ruling. Dressed in various shades of blue, Cosmopolitan College waved the national flag with pride.

It is a mark of true loyalty to their Sultan, when there were over eighty-five thousand people, ranging from participating school children and senior citizens arriving at the break of dawn, just to get a chance to experience this once in a lifetime celebration. “It was an amazing experience, especially for me as this is my first time participating in an event as important as this,” said one of Cosmopolitan’s own students, Irvin Tacasa Cruz of BTEC IT Level 2, “Brunei Darussalam is an amazing, peaceful country and I would gladly participate in events like this again,”. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” commented another student, Amal Syukriah Binti Jamauddin of BTEC IT Level 3, “I got to see the royal family face to face for the first time, and I felt proud to be a part of this occasion,”. Some said that the experience has been tiring, but all the same worth it because this might be their only chance to show their love and gratitude for His Majesty and the peace that he has reigned on Brunei Darussalam.

We’ve designed the new BTEC Level 1 Introductory qualifications for post-16 learners to develop skills rather than specific sector knowledge. The ‘softer’ skills your learners will develop help prepare them for further study or employment. It’s all about showcasing what they can do, rather than just displaying their knowledge.

We decided to review the BTEC offer in light of education policy over a year ago and consider the purpose, content and progression of level 1. We needed to relate our thinking to current national policies but above all the needs of our learners. Based on customer research, we decided that level 1 should have a pre-employment focus and that it should be focussed on skills to progress to level 2. It is not subject to performance measures with regards to recognition or funding so decided that any changes we make, must focus on these key areas.
