On Thursday, the 5th of October 2017, Brunei Darussalam celebrates the historical event of His Majesty’s Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Yang Di Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam’s 50th year of ruling. With months of preparations beforehand, this event was already said to be one of the largest celebrated events in Brunei Darussalam’s history.

Cosmopolitan College took part in celebrating this event, with over one-hundred volunteers, all students and lecturers, to participate with waving the national flag for the arrival of the royal family. Like all of Brunei Darussalam, Cosmo students were also eager to show their patriotism, and to show that that they were proud to have been raised in Brunei Darussalam under His Majesty’s just ruling. Dressed in various shades of blue, Cosmopolitan College waved the national flag with pride.

It is a mark of true loyalty to their Sultan, when there were over eighty-five thousand people, ranging from participating school children and senior citizens arriving at the break of dawn, just to get a chance to experience this once in a lifetime celebration. “It was an amazing experience, especially for me as this is my first time participating in an event as important as this,” said one of Cosmopolitan’s own students, Irvin Tacasa Cruz of BTEC IT Level 2, “Brunei Darussalam is an amazing, peaceful country and I would gladly participate in events like this again,”. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” commented another student, Amal Syukriah Binti Jamauddin of BTEC IT Level 3, “I got to see the royal family face to face for the first time, and I felt proud to be a part of this occasion,”. Some said that the experience has been tiring, but all the same worth it because this might be their only chance to show their love and gratitude for His Majesty and the peace that he has reigned on Brunei Darussalam.

It's that time of the year for the Korean Festival 2017! The Korean Festival started on the 15th of September and ended on the 17th of September. We’ve designed the new BTEC Level 1 Introductory qualifications for post-16 learners to develop skills rather than specific sector knowledge. The ‘softer’ skills your learners will develop help prepare them for further study or employment. It’s all about showcasing what they can do, rather than just displaying their knowledge.

We decided to review the BTEC offer in light of education policy over a year ago and consider the purpose, content and progression of level 1. We needed to relate our thinking to current national policies but above all the needs of our learners. Based on customer research, we decided that level 1 should have a pre-employment focus and that it should be focussed on skills to progress to level 2. It is not subject to performance measures with regards to recognition or funding so decided that any changes we make, must focus on these key areas.

CCCT has arranged a visit to RTB News Centre to exposed the students a sense of responsibility, to enhance IT, to teach self-discipline, and to form camaraderie. The visit was made last Thursday 24th August, 2017 at the RTB News Centre.

The RTB News Centre managed to introduce the students with the live broadcasting that it provides as well as briefing students how they actually operate their organization and work as a team. The college believes that it is very essential to expose these students to know what is practically going on in different industries in Brunei. This will make them understand and appreciate what they are learning inside the classroom. With that, the college aims to equip them with skills that they will need to become better individuals in their chosen career.

Altogether, there were eighteen (18) students and three (2) lecturers who participated in the visit. The college has lined up several activities for this semester and hope that this term will be worthwhile and truly rewarding for these students.

Students and lecturers of Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology (CCCT) were representing Brunei Darussalam in the three-day World Council for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI) Asean Conference 2017 held in Quezon City, the Philippines. CCCT was the only private college selected to send 10 delegates for the event being held from August 17-19.

The conference is held in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) and it gathers education leaders, teachers and students from 10 Asean member countries. The three-day conference will highlight the best of Asean in view of educational trends, practices and innovative approaches to teaching.
