On the 7th of October 2023, following the orientation week, COSMO Leadership Program, was held at the Berakas Forest Reserve Recreational Park. New and progressing learning partners, staff and lecturers were involved in this fun and eventful day.
COSMO Leadership Programs usually consist of activities that require learning partners to participate. Hence, the aim of the program is to allow learning partners to unite their strengths, and skills, enhancing teamwork abilities and, of course, leadership skills.
After interviewing a few learning partners who participated in the program, they mentioned that prior to the day, they felt nervous yet excited as they were new and didn’t know a lot of people yet. However, after meeting and seeing new faces, they were able to get acquainted with one another.
“At first, of course, I didn’t know anyone so of course I was nervous and awkward at first. But it was really fun, the atmosphere was exciting and being grouped and getting to know other learning partners from different courses and levels. I think it is impressive to know why they took the course they are currently taking in COSMO. It was a fun and memorable day in general”, said a Level 3 student who participated in the program.
The tug of war was one of the memorable activities that took place on that day as it has proven to build teamwork within the groups, and the feeling of thrill and anticipation grew among the teams to see who would win the test of strength.
The biggest takeaway from learning partners during the program was communication and learning to be out of their comfort zone, for example, meeting new people who would embark on a similar journey with them, as well as, trying to be more active in events and activities that happens around the college.
The students were randomly grouped among different courses and levels allowing them to socialize, get acquainted with one another and even share knowledge and similar interests outside of the classroom walls.
The program began with the recital of Dua followed by a welcoming speech by the Principal, Miss Nadirah Binti Jambol. We also had Health and Safety Briefing, followed by a warm-up session then, team groupings. There were a total of 10 activities which included, Tug of War, Giant Wheel, Spider Web and many more.
Overall, the COSMO Leadership Program was a success had so much fun meeting new friends. We hope to see the new batch of learning partners with their exciting journey at Cosmopolitan College. Welcome to COSMO!
