Cosmo Carnival: The Night of UV Lights

Written by: Alyssa Sang (BTEC Level 5 Creative Media Student)

Held on the 19th and 20th of August, Cosmo Carnival was a well-anticipated event among the students once it was announced. From students to the lecturers and to the staff, everyone was excited. Not only did it last 2 days, it lasted from afternoon to night.

With assignment deadlines and college work piling as stress builds up, a form of relief comes to the rescue. Cosmo Carnival, a 2-day event that allowed students to have fun and let loose. With a wide array of entertainment, from games to delicious food to live performances, it offered something for everyone.

Prior to the carnival, there was already chatter about what one could expect from it. Attractions such as food, games, karaoke, and indoor theatre were enough to get students to attend the event. Not only that but entertainment and performances from the Music Club and Arts & Culture Club were to be expected as well. Additionally, everyone was required to pay a small entrance fee of 1 dollar, quite affordable if I do say so myself.

Every day had something special that separated them from each other. The first day (19th August 2023) had a little bit of a hiccup where the event started later than its intended time. However, once it started everything was smooth sailing. Despite the slow start, the day was still memorable. The food stalls are right in the center of Cosmo, making it easier for everyone to grab a bite and go. The student lounges were used as areas for students to chill and relax in, alongside games and stalls being set up. As well as, some classrooms being used as an indoor theatre showing multiple different films.

As night fell, the Arts and Culture club gave an amazing performance to kick off the evening’s events. With their stunning outfits and moves, it was a great start to the night. The Music Club also put-up outstanding performances with multiple singers and a live band There was a lot of cheering and sing-along as each singer performed in a different genre, letting the audience experience a range of emotions. With their friends, everyone had a great time that evening.

The Second day (20th August 2023) started right on time. This day was different from the previous day as a couple of cosplayers were present walking around campus. There was also was a karaoke room where students could let go and sing their hearts out. A special pop up from Luq’s Coffee was also present that night, offering handmade coffee drinks for the attendees.

The same as the day before, the Music Club once again put-up amazing performances with the addition of a special guest performance from rapper and beatboxer duo, Danial and Rooip. They wowed the crowd by including them in their freestyle rap, hyping everyone up. Despite less people turning up for the 2nd day, overall, it was still an enjoyable day for those who attended.

In the span of just two unforgettable days, from the blazing hot afternoon to the cozy cool nights, Cosmo Carnival has become an unforgettable experience. This vibrant event in our college community has reminded us that in the midst of our academic pursuits, there’s always room for fun, wonder, and connection. As we bid adieu to the neon lights, the laughter, and the scent of freshly made snacks, may we carry these memories from this carnival with us. Til the next Cosmo Carnival, may the spirit of these two glorious days continue to inspire us in our studies, friendships, and adventures being young at heart.
